Stem Cell Information

After researching a little bit more on my topic of stem cell research, I have found out some information about the topic. Although there is much more that is needed to be researched, the information I found is key. The website that I researched stem cells is provided by the National Institues of Health and is approved by the United States government. (http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/defaultpage.asp) The site provides an introduction to stem cells, as well as, treating diseases, the president's policy on the issue, and more.

Stem cells are cells found in plants, animals, etc. which when divided form new cells, either remaining a stem cell or becoming a new cell with a "more specialized function." The abnormal growth of cells can cause cancer and sometimes birth defects. Scientists are trying to figure out a way to fix these medical issues, by using stem cells.

The website also includes information on President Bush's policy, since the idea of isolating and growing cells has been in effect since 1998.
